Our focus is on partnering with excellent managers to build market leading businesses. Our flexible base of permanent capital allows us to patiently invest in businesses throughout the economic cycle, while our team’s expertise, experience, and network help our businesses develop and execute their strategic growth plans.

We are looking for investments with the following attributes:

  • $2M – $10M of EBITDA

  • Defensible Market Position

  • Low Risk of Technological Obsolescence

  • Modest Capital Requirements

  • Majority Controlling Investments (Preferred)

While no business we invest in will perfectly match our investment criteria, there is one requirement that’s non-negotiable: a shared commitment to operational excellence, fair dealing, and partnership.

SAMUEL M. MENCOFF

Chairman, Temple Hall Group


Sam is the Chairman of Temple Hall Group. Sam is also a Founding Partner and Co-CEO of Madison Dearborn Partners, one of the nation's leading private equity investment firms. He retired from Madison Dearborn in 2023, concluding a 42 year career, and currently serves as a Senior Advisor to the firm. Prior to co-founding MDP, he was with First Chicago Venture Capital for 11 years. He was elected 21st Chancellor of Brown University in 2016 after having served on the Brown Corporation, initially on the Board of Trustees, and subsequently on the Board of Fellows, since 2003. He currently serves as a Commissioner of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery, Vice Chair of the Board of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he serves as Chair of the Committee on American Art, and is Lead Independent Director of Packaging Corporation of America. In addition, Sam is a past director of NorthShore University HealthSystem, the Regional Transportation Authority, and World Business Chicago, as well as numerous public and private companies, including Boise Cascade, Buckeye Cellulose, Georgia Marble Company, Graphic Packaging, Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, Huntway Refining, Smurfit Kappa Group, and Nuveen Investments. Sam graduated from Brown University (B.A.) and Harvard Business School (M.B.A.).

JOHN GOEDERT

President, Temple Hall Group


John is the President of Temple Hall Group. John is responsible for investment decisions, as well as day to day management of Temple Hall Group. Prior to founding Temple Hall Group, John worked at Public Pension Capital (PPC) Enterprises, a middle market private equity firm, where he was responsible for sourcing, executing, and assisting businesses in the Industrials space. Prior to that, John worked at Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR) and Madison Industries in similar capacities. He also worked at J.P. Morgan, advising Industrials clients in M&A and capital markets transactions. John is a native Chicagoan who enjoys spending time with his family, grilling, and regrettably at times, Chicago sports. John graduated from the University of Notre Dame (B.B.A.) and the Stanford Graduate School of Business (M.B.A.). He also passed the uniform CPA examination (not practicing).
